Build a Sustainable Security Program for Your Company

An IT security program has innumerable moving parts that work together cohesively to protect a company and its many assets. On their own, they can't do enough to safeguard what needs to be protected, but together, they can do great things.

Sustainable Security Programs are led by Technology

Online security is a top priority for businesses, especially since cyber threats have started evolving so rapidly, and technology helps manage it. Technology is an instrumental component of the sustainable security program equation. When a security practice is led by it, security breaches can be prevented sooner and responded to more quickly than before thanks to advanced threat intelligence.

In sustainable security programs led by security leaders, multiple types of technology are used, and from that, intelligence is gathered. From next-gen firewalls to sandbox technologies to SIEM, companies who've never had a data breach employ numerous security technologies to defend what's theirs. These technologies pick up where the other leaves off to fill in any gaps.

Intelligence also aids in the fight against hackers. Good threat intelligence gives insight into attack methods and indicators of compromise. Seventy-eight percent of companies who've never let a hacker in use threat intelligence platforms to stay ahead of the game. Use it to enhance your network and endpoint security.

While definitely worth their weight in gold, these technologies can cost an arm and a leg. There's the initial cost of investment, and then you have to maintain and manage them to keep the functionality. That's why you should leverage support from a range of sources to acquire them. Third parties, industry analysts, and other departments can be reached out to.

Creating a Sustainable Security Program

To prepare for the cyber threats of today, security leaders must align technologies, processes, and people to create an effective and successful cybersecurity strategy. Each one will work together to hold the other up, bolster your security program, and defend against attackers.

That means you need to take stock, see where you stand in these areas, and make improvements if necessary.

Here are some things you should be looking at:

1) Finding the right security solutions and partners: The right security solutions and partners can transform your sustainable security program. Many security leaders outsource parts of their security, which comes with several benefits. You'll get expertise that wasn't accessible before, experience, and new technology that you may not have had access to.

2) Automation: Automation can be your best friend if you'll let it. Manual IT processes place a high burden on IT staff, so the less there is of them, the better. Automation can improve operational efficiency and allow IT staff to focus on other strategic tasks.

A sustainable security program is built on technology, processes, and people. It uses the best parts of all three to proactively care for your company's IT infrastructure. When building yours, include multiple security technologies that can protect and gather threat intelligence, and align them with your staff and the processes they use.
